Our Story
“For as long as we can remember Owen and I have shared a passion for all things spicy. With a culinary background spanning fifteen years I’ve always loved experimenting with flavours, especially the ones that appealed to the spicier palate. During the COVID-19 pandemic I began creating chilli sauces essentially because I was bored of always putting the same go to hot sauce (#Franks) on my food and in part because it just was not hot enough for me. I initially designed two different flavours. One a tropical delight inspired by the Caribbean blending elements of a Bloody Mary with a Piña Colada, infused with Scotch Bonnets and Habaneros. Then in pursuit of something super hot, I turned to the world’s hottest chilli at the time - the Carolina Reaper. Countless trials led to a smoked Carolina Reaper sauce, boasting not only intense heat but also nuanced flavours of cinnamon, cumin and coriander - a sauce so irresistible, it became my new favourite.
I shared batches with friends, their enthusiastic reception fuelling my passion . Yet, as life resumed its course post-pandemic, I lost enthusiasm (and time) and the sauces slipped from my mind for a time. That could have been it, however, Owen was a persistent reminder of unfinished business. “G, when is the next batch coming?”, he’d prod, his insistence eventually led to me thinking maybe I should make this properly.
In December 2023, Owens persistence finally paid off as we embarked on this journey of creating a real business together. With his business acumen and my culinary expertise, we forged ahead. Our brand: Original G Sauce (OG Sauce) is both a nod to our partnership and the hip hop culture that I grew up with. Despite my dads humorous suggestion of “GO sauce” (dad joke at its finest there) to avoid any digestion related misunderstandings, we settled on a name that resonated with our vision.
From conceptualisation to realisation, the road to launching our product has been paved with dedication supported by the unwavering faith of our families, both emotionally and financially. There is a lot involved in setting up a business, from concept to sale. It has taken a lot of effort from both myself and Owen and the support and faith from family members (financially - it is not cheap to bring a product to market). The graphic designer we chose to bring our brand to life has done an amazing job and we cannot thank him enough for really understanding what the brand was and what it means to us (thanks Kimbo). We are genuinely so excited for this product to go on sale and for you all to be able to try it. We have so many ideas of how this brand will grow and cant wait to bring them to life. To everyone who has taken the time to read this thank you for your support as well Owen and I could not do this without you!”
